The World Association for Infectious Diseases and Immunological Disorders (WAidid) was founded in July 2014 to advance the scientific research in the field of infectious diseases and immunology and to disseminate information on the related pathologies both at National and International level. The Association was born from an idea of Professor Susanna Esposito, a leading Italian expert on infectious diseases and pediatrics, and now President of WAidid. Professor Esposito had always felt the lack of a network between the associations or scientific societies specialized in infectious and immunological diseases, and involving at the same time all the different organ specialists who treat neonates, children, adults and the elderly. She therefore took the lead and on the one side put together specialists in infectious diseases and immunology with organ specialists such as pulmonologists, rheumatologists, gastroenterologists and renal experts, and on the other side physicians specialised in the treatment of the different age groups, such as neonatologists, pediatricians, internists and gerontologists, on the other. The result is WAidid, an association of experts representative of a multidisciplinary approach operating across different age groups.
